WAYUULAB starts as the first Indigenous Filmmakers Lab in Colombia




WayuuLab is the first Indigenous Filmmakers Lab in Colombia. It is an initiative promoted by the Wayuu People's Communications Network and its grassroots organizations and aims to strengthen the filmmaking process of the Young People of the Wayuu People's School of Communications “Jayariyu Farias Montiel” and invited indigenous filmmakers, who for eight days they will participate in an intensive camp, for the construction of four short films that will be screened during the ninth Wayuu Film and Video Showcase MUCIWA.

In a marathon rhythm, young people will visit the municipalities of Uribia, Maicao and Manaure for the production of their short films, which will address issues such as: Border, Migration, Human Rights, Territory and Environmental Impacts. Subsequently, the productions will be evaluated by the audience attending MUCIWA to choose the best short film, since WayuuLab is a prelude activity of the 9th MUCIWA, which this year will be held in communities of the Border Municipality of Maicao, Palawaipoa and Manaure from November 27 to 30.

WayuuLab, is part of the strategies to promote the realization of films made by indigenous people, seeking to materialize that indigenous cinematographic language, from their own eyes. Likewise, enhancing the implementation of the actions contemplated within the public policy of indigenous communications and the national ethnic television plan. This first laboratory is carried out with the support of the Ministry of Tic and the NIA TERO Foundation.
