WayuuLab
is the first Indigenous Filmmakers Lab in Colombia. It is an initiative
promoted by the Wayuu People's Communications Network and its grassroots
organizations and aims to strengthen the filmmaking process of the Young People
of the Wayuu People's School of Communications “Jayariyu Farias Montiel” and
invited indigenous filmmakers, who for eight days they will participate in an
intensive camp, for the construction of four short films that will be screened
during the ninth Wayuu Film and Video Showcase MUCIWA.
In a marathon rhythm,
young people will visit the municipalities of Uribia, Maicao and Manaure for
the production of their short films, which will address issues such as: Border,
Migration, Human Rights, Territory and Environmental Impacts. Subsequently, the
productions will be evaluated by the audience attending MUCIWA to choose the
best short film, since WayuuLab is a prelude activity of the 9th
MUCIWA, which this year will be held in communities of the Border Municipality
of Maicao, Palawaipoa and Manaure from November 27 to 30.
WayuuLab,
is part of the strategies to promote the realization of films made by
indigenous people, seeking to materialize that indigenous cinematographic
language, from their own eyes. Likewise, enhancing the implementation of the
actions contemplated within the public policy of indigenous communications and
the national ethnic television plan. This first laboratory is carried out with
the support of the Ministry of Tic and the NIA TERO Foundation.
